  1. Recovery Point Objective represents the maximum amount of data – as measured by time – that can be lost after a recovery from a disruption. For instance, if backups are taken daily, the maximum data loss expected should be 24hours, if recovery begins promptly.
  2. Recovery Time Objective represents the maximum amount of real time it should take to restore an acceptable service level after a disruption. The RTO answers the question: “How much time after notification about the business process disruption should it take to resume normal operations?” Note that the accrual of recovery time begins at the start of normal NatureServe business operations.
  3. The virtual hosting environment features built-in redundant capacity which would reduce the impact of, e.g., a host failure or planned upgrade, usually to a level unnoticed by the end user. Recovery would entail an internal process to bring the capacity back online.
