ArcMap/Catalog requires the 32-bit Oracle installation even on a 64-bit machine. Failing to install the 32-bit version of Oracle will result in the following error when trying to Add Database Connection in ArcCatalog, as instructed in the Connect to Biotics 5 Database within ArcGIS help topic.
- Install the 32-bit version of Oracle according to the instructions within Installing Oracle 11g client solution.
- Navigate to \\Windows\Syswow64\odbcad32.exe and double-click the odbcad32.exe to open it. This will utilize the 32-bit version rather than the 64-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator which is opened by default.
- Create the ODBC connection within the 32-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator, according to Step 7 of Configuring your connection to Biotics 5.
The necessary Oracle driver will now be available to successfully add a database connection in ArcCatalog.
