The exported shapefiles from Biotics 5 get created as 3D files (polygonZ) files. This renders them un-editable in Arcview 3.3. It could also be a problem if trying to merge these files w/ other non Z value shapefiles. This can be seen by looking at the Theme Properties in Arcview 3.3 - the filename ends in (PolygonZ), and in the Source tab in ArcGIS as such: Coordinates have Z values: Yes - Coordinates have measures: Yes.
The fix in ArcGIS is to use the Data Conversion tool, Feature class to Shapefile on the exported shapefile, and set the environment settings to DISABLE Z and M values. This creates a 'clean' copy of the shapefile without the values.
